I hear from unknown sources that in the past few years, the UK Government have provided direct cash (£) aid to:-

TOTAL

£14,933,000,000.00

Giving them a total of literally £14,933 Billions of Pounds……

Is it true that the UK Government gives £13, 000,000,000.00 per year in Foreign Aid?

Many countries are deserving of the UK Foreign Aid policy but could the Government please explain the situation for the benefit of millions of UK retired seniors living on a fixed income,  hundreds of adoptable children who are not placed, homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without needed medication or fuel to heat their homes and mentally ill without treatment… Etc. I just want to know or is this all just hype? Please just convince me to the contrary that this is not the case, in order to set my mind at rest and continue in the belief that the United Kingdom is a just and fair-minded country where the interests of its people are given priority over outside interests.

I am an “easy going” British citizen who has lived through the Baby Boom period (1946 onwards) and have always admired the UK Government for doing its best to serve the interests of the millions living in this green and pleasant land but now I am not so sure.

So what is your view on what is happening?

There is some help available and the following are given below for reference:-

There is no doubt that many people need more financial assistance or as The Beatles say “Money (That’s What I Want!)”

  1. John: Anyone who is “Motivated by the Inspiration of Others and the Love of Music” is OK in my book. Might I just add into your discussion one of my philosophies, namely, “Anything that we are given can just as easily be taken away. Any skill we earn we get to benefit from forever”. That said, then, it is my contention that giving money away – as foreign aid or to UK citizens – is feeding the wrong horse. Teaching people in acquiring entrepreneurial skills to flourish in the “Brave New World” and develop self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment. That’s where it has always been at. #InMyOpinion. prp

Hi Peter, thank you for your profound statement to which I heartily agree. The problem with any kind of social handouts is that some people begin to expect it to continue as a matter of right and not try to rely on their own efforts. Of course this is a general statement and certainly not applicable in all cases. Cheers John
