Eleven years on – my thoughts for today 11th September 2012
My thoughts are very mixed at present – there is so much to blog about I could spend all my time just writing blogs! What I try to do each day is to “feel” about what I really want to write about. On a day like today there are so many emotions playing on my mind but you have to make a decision and be positive about what you are going to do. Time is of the essence and therefore it is “essential” to have a game plan – a time management scheme. (a blog for another day!)
Anyway, I wish to write about a number of events today.
The 9/11 Disaster
I was traveling back from New Orleans to the UK on 10th September 2001 after attending the NAFEM (North American Association of Food Equipment Managers) The NAFEM Show at which I represented the European Foodservice Equipment Distributors Association (EFEDA). We changed flights at Boston and I will never forget seeing a man of Arabian origin just standing at the top of a set of stairs literally staring into space. It was a sensation that I will never forget because as I arrived home on the Tuesday lunchtime I saw what I thought was a film but it was live from New York with pictures similar to the above one. Of course an event which changed the history of the world forever. For reference click below.
I also remember a colleague telling me that a week earlier he and friends had been to a lunchtime jazz party at the top of one of the twin towers on a beautiful sunny day. Others told me of their experiences being delayed in New Orleans for up to a week afterwards. So many stories – WHAT WERE YOUR MEMORIES?
Inspiration knows no bounds! – Andy Murray
At the end of celebrations to end all celebrations – the Olympics and Paralympics Street Parade in London yesterday, we heard overnight in the UK that Andy Murray had won won his first Grand Slam event – the US Open in New York – beating Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Murray won in five sets(7-6 (12-10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2) and the Scot is the first British man to win a major title since 1936 when Fred Perry of England won the US Open and of course Wimbledon in the same year. Don’t forget Murray also won at Wimbledon this year! BUT AS AN OLYMPIC EVENT! Talk about inspiration – I was so impressed with that result it inspired me to write a special blog at the time – <<<check it out here>>>
Let’s hope that inspiration will carry Andy Murray forward to fulfill his ultimate dream of winning Wimbledon next year!
