Creating Posts into the Menu Bar..what’s all that about?.ILSK Part 5 Day 23

Pages and menus

The most important part of blogging is how to create blogs into posts. Refer back to the Dashboard on WordPress so that we go into more detail here.

In the training you will find easy to follow videos to develop your knowledge in this area.

How to create posts

  • Inserting Hyperlinks – one of the things you want to do is to link to other sites. For instance, you may wish to refer to Go Daddy and so you highlight Go Daddy and click on the “chain” link above. Insert the url and tick box to open link in a new window/tab.
  • Adding images – you click on “Add Media” button and then click “upload files” and then go to “insert files” where you will find the image which you require. Click on that and wait for the download. Then “Insert into post.” Job done but always remember to refresh with every change.

Images in Sidebar

How to put a clickable image into the the right hand side of widget bar of your website and also a “Buy” button to sell a product or an affiliate product through your shopping page or Paypal account. Here you learn how to add a new widget with an image and text and install it under the Tabbed Widget section on the right hand side. There are many good websites to see the results of widgets duly created! See Training and in particular note the chain link – permalink.

Scheduling & Sticky Posts

How you can still make blog posts, even while you’re on holiday without an internet connection.

Also how to create a sticky post, one that sticks to the top of your blog. This is a very convenient facility by WordPress especially if you wish to draw attention to an important blog – it will also stay “sticky” whatever happens. Once again, this is a simple exercise – just go to Dashboard, click on Posts and choose the one. Go to right hand side – click on Visibility and then Public and then tick ” Stick this post to the front page” and this goes to the top. Refresh and view your website.

In the next Blog Post we will cover the following subjects, if possible!

Categories – How to organize your posts into logical groups, to make your content more relevant to your readers.

Pages –

The difference between posts and pages and where and why you should use pages.

Comments  – When people write comments on your blog, you need to approve them before they appear.

Appearances –  is what makes your blog unique to all other blogs. Here you can change the complete look and feel of your blog, change headers, add menus and add content to the sidebars.

Now, bear in mind that by this step by step method of training you will be able to build your own website by the end of it and certainly we are always here to help you.
