As I get older, is it a time to reflect on the past or ?…Day 2
As I’ve aged, I’ve become kinder to, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend and this reflects on how I communicate with others!
Too many dear friends and family leave this world too soon and before they could understand the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it, if I choose to read or play on my laptop until 4 PM!, or sleep until noon? I will sing to those wonderful tunes of the 50s, 60s & 70s on my karaoke player in the office and if at any time, I wish to do something out of the ordinary, I will! I am still very much “Young at Heart.” Listen to the song at the end of this blog post!
I will walk the beaches of Westwood Ho! and North Devon in general, swim in the heated indoor and outdoor pools of the Barnstaple Hotel, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They too will get old!
I know sometimes I am forgetful but there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And really it is only worthwhile remembering the important things that have happened.
Sure, over the years, like you no doubt, my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one or when a child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into my face. So many have never laughed and so many have died before their hair could turn silver. Life is for living to the full.
As you get older it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong!
I like being older than the average online business networker. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here I will not waste time lamenting what could have been or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it!).
With special thanks to my dear friend Malcolm Irvine who inspired much of this content.
